Love notes on the driveway

I love the sweet little notes that my kids give me-- "You're the best mom in the whole world." or "I love you mommy." They are heartwarming and reassuring--yes, you are doing a great job as a mom. Mike used to tell me about the notes he would give to his mom when he was mad. Notes like "naughty mommy" often found themselves under her door. I think Geoffrey may have sent me a few such notes but lately I've received nothing but nice notes. . . . until now.

This is what I found on the driveway this morning.

"Mommy's being mean" "Mom being mean"

This was Lilly's doing and it is on my driveway for all to see. No inconspicuous notes under the door for her. Apparently she didn't like the fact that at 7:30 at night I wouldn't let her bike around the block but insisted she stay close to home. Mike tried to tell me that it just means I have raised independent children who know how to express themselves. Maybe there was a little guilt associated with the note because one of the phrases looks like she tried to cross it out and she wouldn't even talk about it this morning when I pointed it out to her. I do find it slightly humorous, however, I am looking forward to the rain tomorrow that will make the words disappear.
