Beginning in December, Mike kept telling us that he wasn't going to turn 40 until he got promoted to Assistant Professor at work. I was quite curious as to how he was going to avoid turning a year older on January 30th. Maybe he had powers I didn't even know about. I was worried that throwing him a birthday party might push him over the edge. Thank goodness he got the word that the promotion went through just a few weeks before his birthday. We had a small surprise party for Mike with about a dozen of our friends.
We had mainly desserts for the party-cake, mini cheesecakes, cookies, apples and chips. The cake is an eyeball cake since one of Mike's projects is related to blood vessels in the eye.

Congratulations Mike! Your accomplishments and achievements are awesome. (Now that's aliteration!) We are so happy for you. Happy Birthday Mr. 40. We had seven family birthdays this month, so February is great. We send our love and best wishes. Uncle John and Aunt Di.
