A place for everything

In our home, we have a long hallway between our front door and living room. For over a year, we have talked about building or buying a bookshelf system to hold books, sort the mail, hold Mike's work bag, etc. We finally moved from the thinking and talking stage and a few months ago Mike started building the bookshelf system.

Here is the unfinished piece in our garage waiting to be painted.

Here is the finished piece. I painted the wall moss green to contrast the white of the bookshelf. Mike stained the main counter top to give it a nice look and add additional contrast. It will eventually get some trim at the top, a drawer under each mail sorting section, and doors for the base cabinet.

We are very pleased with the final result. Our home is already more organized. It is so nice to have a place to put everything. Now we just need to name it so when someone asks, "Where's the dictionary?" I can reply, "It's on the . . . " Geoffrey has suggested "the white giant." Any other suggestions?

The shelves aren't green, but since you painted the wall green, it could be the "Green Monster." :) Looks lovely; great work!
